Gate is of isekai genre anime which blew me away.
I watched it by thinking it would be typical isekai genre anime, but man I was wrong.
I enjoyed it very much.
It shows the difference between a developed society and an underdeveloped society.
Not only the difference in education, knowledge, firepower, believes,culture are shown but also when a war occures between these two, the problems that takes place in people's mentality are shown.
This is an awesome anime. I strongly recommend it.
STORY
There appears a gate in the present age Tokyo in a crowded area.
From that mysterious gate medival looking soldiers and many types of beasts like dragons , goblins etc. Started to come out and attack the civilians without any provocation.
But the Japan Self Defence Force ( JSDF)
took immediate action and captured the gate with ease .
The gate was a mystery and the mystery beyond that gate was a new world.
It was a fantasy world of elfs, dragons, goblins, beast people, humans, and magic.
But they lived in a far more underdeveloped world than ours . They were lacking in eductaion, knowledge, weapons, science etc.
The new world people brought a knife to a gunfight.
Nippon soldiers defeated them with ease.
For Japan that was an unknown world . They deployed an army through that gate. Japan wanted to know more about that world.
So for that purpose they formed a squad of some personels.
Their purpose was to explore the new world, make contact with the locals, learn and spread knowledge .
CHARACTERS
Yōji Itami: He is the protagonist in this anime. He is a 33 year old man who is an otaku. As an otaku his only wish is to read manga and attend conventions peacefully.
Not only he is a soldier but also the leader of the squad that was formed inorder to explore the new world.
He is a brave character and didn't afraid to take risks. So almost all the difficult missions naturally fell upon him.
I think the major difference between this anime and the other typical isekai anime is that the protagonist is a responsible adult. So there is maturity in his dicission making.
He is good man and a brave soldier who is also smart.
Rori Mercury : She is demi - goddess . She looks like a loli but fear not , Rori's age is 961 years. Superb character. Rori is awesome, mass ,badass. All her action scenes are soo cool to watch.
She is basically a goddess so she fears almost nothing.
Her character design is unique and distinguishable.
Many people have taken her as a waifu.
Luna : She is an Elf. Loona lost her father during a war. So she have some mental issues and sees Itami as her father.
The mental stress that war brings on people is shown through her.
Laila O Lalena : She is magician cum scientist from the world beyond the gate.
Basically a genius, and Laila learns Japanese with ease and started to use computers. She wants to gather as many knowledge as possible.
Piña Colada : piña is the Princess of the new world. She wants peace between everyone.
There are many characters beside these ones. All of the characters have depth and a role in the story.
We can relate and can be attached with the characters.
Also the character design is nice.
ANIMATION, SOUND, AND OTHER THINGS
This anime have an awesome animation, the flow and detailing in the anime is nice. So many beautiful frames.
Also have some epic scenes.. goosebumps.
The music, bgm, and scores are soo nice, it will only help to get immersed in the anime.
Voice acting is also good.
There is this one scene that I will never forget ( might be a SPOILER so skip the paragraph)
There is this helicopter scene, oh my the scene is soo awesome , from that sequence we will understand the difference between the two societies, the astonishment of people, the fear, the thrill, even the background music is amazing.
People fear what they don't understand.
OVERALL
This is an awesome anime. I liked it and enjoyed it very much.
I didn't expect a gem like this from the isekai genre.
The political issues are dealt well.
Yes ofcourse there is Japan glorification.
But I loved the anime..
Its available on Netflix.
I recommend this anime strongly.
